Go Retro or Go Home

I was overwhelmed by the amount of pink.

I was walking around craving some tacos in downtown Las Vegas after my pre-wedding beauty appointment last week, when I was immediately blinded by an overwhelming amount of pink coming from a nearby building.

While not exactly connected to the Flamingo hotel on the Strip, vintage shop Retro Las Vegas proved to be a gem with unique Mid-century modern furniture and vintage clothing at some decent prices. I even managed to score the cutest vintage baby doll mod dress from the 1960s, complete with a bow and polka dots for

The establishment is certainly is going to be a spot of mine to pre-shop ahead of Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly in April during my honeymoon.

Atomic Style Lounge = Atomic Hair

Double the lashes, double the fun.

I’ve always been so envious of 1960s girl groups, such as The Ronettes, and their totally gorg beehive hairstyles and chic eyeliner.

So when it came time to try hair and makeup ahead of my wedding at the Atomic Style Lounge in Vegas, known for their hair and makeup for attendees of annual music festival Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly, I had my chance.

I told the girls that even though my wedding was David Bowie themed, I really wanted to “do it up real big beauty Queen” style (in the words of one Miss Lana Del Rey) for my Big Day. So I channeled my love and admiration for French actress Brigitte Bardot, American singer Nancy Sinatra and, since it’s Vegas, Priscilla Presley, to try out a preview look for my wedding.

And well, two hours later, I could hardly recognize myself.

Needless to say, thanks to this vintage fashion dream team, I know now how to wear fake eyelashes and even take them off without ripping my own out in the process. Fashion victory? Absolutely.

Can’t wait for 4.4.2020.

Gotta Have It Vintage

Digging for vintage in the dark.

January 3, 2020

When I’m feeling a holiday hankering for some vintage finds, I’m usually debating whether to wing it on Etsy or just stumble across some swinging ‘60s items the old fashioned way: the vintage store.

Once I deposited my holiday money, one of my first stops was Gotta Have It Vintage over in Venice, CA, just to you know… treat myself. The actual shops on Venice Beach can be somewhat overpriced, but nothing beats this store, which always feels like an old friend.

On this special day in December, the power in the store was half off, no generator… and by 5 pm, the store was dark and felt somewhat post-apocalyptic (how I do my best thinking and my best shopping). This didn’t stop me from invading the $10 trunk sale where I unearthed some amazing polka dot finds.

The girls working there were sweet enough to find some battery-operated lamps from the scary attic, so I could manage to try my finds on without following over in the dressing room.

Thanks to the extra ambience, I decided to purchase the timeless pieces: two polka dot tops along with a cute blue mod striped top, making me drool for summertime to just hurry up already.

Gotta Have It? Gotta love it.
